7 Dermal Filler Myths
When it comes to dermal fillers, misinformation and myths can create unnecessary fear and confusion. At CosmeticsMD, we believe in providing our patients with accurate information to help them make informed decisions about their treatments. Here, we debunk some of the most common myths related to dermal and facial fillers.
One of the biggest misconceptions about dermal fillers is that they will make you look unnatural or "overdone." In reality, when administered by experienced professionals, dermal fillers can enhance your natural beauty and provide subtle, yet effective, improvements. At CosmeticsMD, our board-certified dermatologists and trained providers use their expertise to ensure that your results look natural and harmonious with your facial features.
Myth 1: Dermal Fillers Will Make You Look Fake or Overdone
Many people worry that receiving dermal fillers will be a painful experience. While some discomfort is to be expected, most patients report that the procedure is relatively painless. We use fine needles and can apply a topical numbing cream to minimize any discomfort. The entire process is quick, and most patients find the experience to be much more comfortable than they anticipated.
Myth 2: Dermal Fillers Are Painful
Dermal fillers are not permanent; they are designed to be gradually absorbed by the body over time. Depending on the type of filler used, the results can last from 6 to 18 months. If you are unhappy with the results, certain fillers, like those made of hyaluronic acid, can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. This ensures that you are not stuck with results you do not like.
Myth 3: Fillers Are Permanent and Irreversible
While dermal fillers are commonly used to smooth wrinkles, they have a wide range of applications. Fillers can be used to add volume to the lips, cheeks, and under-eye areas, contour the jawline and chin, and even improve the appearance of scars. At CosmeticsMD, we tailor each treatment to address your unique concerns and goals.
Myth 4: Fillers Are Only for Wrinkles
It's crucial to have dermal fillers administered by qualified and experienced professionals. At CosmeticsMD, our treatments are performed by board-certified dermatologists and skilled providers who have undergone extensive training. This ensures that you receive safe and effective treatments with results that meet your expectations.
Myth 5: Anyone Can Administer Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are temporary, and their effects gradually diminish over time as the body absorbs the filler material. To maintain your desired look, follow-up treatments are necessary. The frequency of these treatments depends on the type of filler used and individual factors like metabolism and lifestyle.
Myth 6: You Won’t Need Another Treatment Once You Get Fillers
Dermal fillers are for everyone, regardless of gender. Men can benefit from fillers to enhance their facial features, reduce signs of aging, and achieve a more youthful appearance. At CosmeticsMD, we offer customized treatment plans tailored to meet the needs and goals of all our patients.
